advent: by his grace as a gift

o come all ye faithfulHave you ever received a gift that was absolutely perfect for you? It suited your interests, your personality. It was not another sweater or a hot dog slicer (yes, they do exist) or a mug set you’re going to re-gift to your neighbor. It was special.

‘Tis the season. With Dec. 25 around the corner, I’ve gotten more Amazon emails than I know what to do with and managed to spend an hour wandering around Kohl’s last weekend looking for the “perfect” gift.

But with all the list making, shopping and wrapping that goes into the Christmas season, here’s a gift that truly is perfect.

Romans 3: 21-26

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—  God’s goodness does not come from obeying the 10 commandments everyday, although the 10 commandments point to my inadequacy and God’s goodness.

the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Righteousness comes through faith or belief. In what? Jesus.

For there is no distinction: Nothing qualifies us, no external factor makes a difference. God sees no distinction. Thank, goodness.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Our very nature steals God’s glory.

and are justified by his grace as a gift, But there is a gracious gift that puts us in right standing with God.

through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, How did that gift come into our hands? Through Jesus.

whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, God purposefully sent Jesus so we can receive His redemption as a gift through Christ’s blood sacrifice on the cross.

to be received by faith.  And we accept this gift by faith.

Merry Christmas.
